Welcome to the first in a new series of audios from LocalLife & Little Histories - 'In Search of Wildlife'.
In this series of short 15 - 20 minute audios I go out and about in the British countryside as well as visiting reserves both local and further afield in search of the wildlife to be found there.

In this first audio I go in search of Grey Heron. A common sight along canal and river banks, on the margins of pools and lakes and not an unknown visitor to garden ponds if fish are in the offering.
The Midlands region has a large population of Grey Heron with 700 nests being recorded in 2003 and 80% of those in the county of Staffordshire.
In this audio I visit a local nature reserve which is frequented by Grey Heron and which is adjacent to the Sandwell Valley Country Park in which on Ice House Pool there have been recorded 18 nests.
The Grey Heron also adorns the dust jacket of 'The new birds of the West Midlands' a publication from the West Midlands Bird Club which was used in conjunction with 'The Birds of the Sandwell Valley' for reference information for this audio.
Intro and Incidental music by Heavy Mellow from the Acoustic Abstracts album. More information available from Magnatune.

The photo's on the site are amazing. You are quite a photographer, however I would like to see some birds of prey and possibly some more mammals on the site.
