Most mornings I try before the work day starts on the country park to take a walk around a couple of the pools camera in hand just in case something should catch my eye.
This morning while walking around Willows pool the electric blue of a kingfisher flashed by to alight on an overhanging branch of a willow on the opposite side of the pool, far too far to even contemplate a photograph.
However as trusty as ever the heron was there. The heron is there pretty much every morning, normally at this time of day before the people arrive out in view and on the nearest bank. Herons always seem to be there by pools and lake sides, like prehistoric sentinels watching over the water. Somehow everything seems to be right just by their presence.
